Resident of Pontprennau & Old St. Mellons
Formerly Georgina Welch, Educated at Heathfield House Grammar School. Married at 20 spending more than 20 years travelling the world with my husband. During this time I gained my degree and became seriously interested in politics. In 1995 I was desperate for a change of UK government, accepting that I couldn't sit back and wait for other people to do all the work needed to achieve that, I joined Julie Morgan's campaign team when she was Labour Party candidate for Cardiff North in the 1997 General Election. We were successful and I continued to work at her office for another year. By then I had realised I wanted to be out in the community, actively involved with issues which were important to local people. In 1999 I was elected to the County Council to represent the area of Pontprennau & Old St. Mellons. I live in the Ward and loved being able to represent it. I was re-elected in the 2004 election. In the recent (May 2008) elections I lost my seat. However, I have decided to continue to work in the community since I enjoy it so much, and so actually very little seems to have changed!
